Use your own web address

Give your catalogue an address on your own domain, so families see your name in the address bar.

Who can do this: admins only. You will also need whoever looks after your domain name, for example the person who set up your website or email.

Your public site always works at its Gizzago address. You can add an address on your own domain as well. It must be a subdomain: a name in front of your website's address, such as borrow.yourlibrary.org.uk or toys.yourlibrary.org.uk. Your main website keeps working as it does now.

Steps

  1. Choose Settings in the sidebar, then Public site.
  2. Scroll down and click Your own web address. Until you set one up, it reads "Not set up. Your catalogue uses our address."
  3. Type the address you want in Web address, for example borrow.yourlibrary.org.uk.
  4. Press Save address.
  5. Confirm it's you, with your password or passkey. Gizzago brings you back to the page.
  6. Under Point it at us, Gizzago shows one record to add. It has three parts: Type (CNAME), Name (your new address) and Points to (the Gizzago address to point it at).
  7. Send those three parts to whoever looks after your domain. They add the record where your domain is managed, such as your domain registrar or web host.
  8. Wait. It can take up to a day to start working.
What you'll see

Under Point it at us, the status reads "waiting for DNS" while the record is being set up. The Gizzago team then finishes the secure certificate for you, and the status changes to "live". Once it is live, links in your emails use your own address.

If the status says "not working yet. Check the record, then tell us.", ask whoever added the record to check each of the three parts, then contact the Gizzago team.

Stop using your own address

  1. Open Your own web address.
  2. Press Stop using it, then Stop using it again to confirm.

Your catalogue goes back to its Gizzago address only. Ask whoever looks after your domain to remove the record too.

Tips

  • Choose a short, clear name that you can say out loud at a session, such as "borrow" or "toys".
  • Update links on your main website, posters and social media once the new address is live.
